Basler Verkehrs-Betriebe (BVB) promotes mobility for people in the city and the surrounding conurbation. Since 2006, BVB has been run as a public-law institution wholly owned by the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Each year, around 127 million passengers use the tram and bus services within the North-West Switzerland fare network. The BVB is the only municipal transport operator in the world whose tram lines connect three countries (Switzerland, Germany and France).
Basler Verkehrs-Betriebe (BVB) and Pro Senectute in both Basel cantons have tested a new safety system for passengers using walking frames. Following a six-month trial of the ‘Rollator-Rest’ system, the BVB have opted for a different solution. They are focusing on providing more individual seats in the new electric buses.
