Supplementary benefits

Are you entitled to support?

Supplementary benefits (EL) to the AHV and IV provide support in cases where pensions and income do not cover the minimum cost of living.

Supplementary benefits are a legal entitlement and do not constitute welfare or social assistance. Together with the AHV and IV, supplementary benefits form part of the social foundation of our state.

Supplementary benefits are paid out by the cantons. They consist of two categories:

  • annual benefits, paid out monthly
  • reimbursement of costs relating to illness and disability.

People are entitled to supplementary benefits

  • who are entitled to an AHV or IV pension
  • who are entitled to an IV daily allowance paid for at least 6 months
  • who are entitled to an AHV or IV long-term care allowance
  • who do not receive an AHV or IV pension because they have not met the minimum contribution period.

Entitlement applies only if you are resident in Switzerland and have your habitual residence there.

You can use the EL calculator to make a provisional assessment of whether you might be eligible for supplementary benefits. This assessment is completely anonymous; your data is not stored anywhere.

Of course, you can also book a personal consultation.
Make an appointment and we will help you with the assessment process.
