An einer bedeutenden Handelsstrasse gelegen war die "Spale" jahrhundertelang Basels "Visitenkarte". Das Tor, eines der schönsten weit und breit, zeugte vom Reichtum der Stadt; die Vorstadt bot die Infrastruktur für Reisende, beherbergte nebst den städtischen Vorratsspeichern ein grosses Kloster und vieles mehr. Der Rundgang bietet einen Überblick über die Geschichte und Entwicklung von Basels bedeutendster Vorstadt.
