Getting involved in your local community

Would you like to volunteer and bring a bit of joy to older people through home visits? You’ll be supporting work with older people and making an important contribution to the wellbeing of the older population.

As a local representative, you’ll be the point of contact for any concerns or issues raised by older residents in your community, thereby actively helping to combat loneliness in old age. We’re looking for patient, open-minded and reliable people for these roles.

Time commitment

  • These are regular visits lasting approximately 1 hour each (on average 2–3 visits per month).
  • Assignments may take place during the week or at the weekend.

Your duties

  • Birthday visits to older people
  • Providing information about services directly to older people
  • You will highlight available options (social advice, leisure activities, everyday support, the Fürenand Laufental transport service)
  • Distributing leaflets and brochures
  • You will inform the Elderly Services Centre of any important incidents and feedback
  • You are welcome to organise further events and outings for senior citizens

Skills and requirements

  • You are friendly and courteous
  • You have a good command of German; knowledge of other languages is an advantage
  • You enjoy interacting with older people

We offer

  • Reimbursement of expenses
  • Induction and support in your role
  • Opportunities to take part in Pro Senectute events across both Basel cantons
