Sometimes, a journey determines whether someone can keep an appointment, run errands or meet up with other people. But for older people on a tight budget, even the cost of a taxi or a transport service can be too high.
We see this time and again in our free advice sessions: an elderly woman can barely walk due to knee pain, but needs to attend physiotherapy. An elderly man would like to attend his chess club, but doesn’t feel confident enough to get on the bus with his walking frame. If they lack the money for an alternative means of transport, they stay at home – and lose a degree of independence and social participation. This is where our fundraising project comes in. Following a careful assessment of their financial situation, older people affected by poverty receive travel vouchers which they can use for a transport service for people with disabilities or a taxi.
With your donation, you are giving the gift of mobility, independence and quality of life. Thank you
very much for your support!
