Hopp-La – Generations on the Move

Pro Senectute Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft, in partnership with the Hopp-La Foundation, organises joint exercise sessions for young and old. This intergenerational pilot project takes place free of charge in Schützenmattpark.

During these exercise sessions, older people train alongside children in a playful way to improve strength and balance. The sessions are open to all without the need to register, making them very accessible. The active senior citizens and the children, who exercise, laugh and practise balancing together in a public space, encourage others to join in.

Joint physical activity improves both physical and mental wellbeing. It also promotes social interaction and understanding between the generations. During these joint exercise sessions, young and old can experience a motivating and responsible way of interacting with one another and benefit from each other on various levels.

Further projects, such as intergenerational exercise programmes in retirement communities, are in the planning stage. Interested retirement communities and local authorities are welcome to contact Pro Senectute in both Basel cantons.

The course takes place on Thursdays in Basel: Schützenmattpark, 3 pm, meeting point by the wooden crates near the pavilion.
The course does not take place during school holidays or on public holidays.
